Here is some great news! Building Financial Futures of America, aka BFF, has been featured in The Daily Tar Heel, the student-run newspaper of UNC-Chapel Hill. On September 6, 2026, writer Emmy Russ published a story revolving around the non-profits’ founders, chapters, and mission to share with the Chapel Hill community. Seeing our work covered by such a respected and wonderful campus is a milestone that we’re so proud of achieving.

These are some essential moments for BFF as they expand our horizon to new people and perspectives. Anyone who wants to learn about financial literacy but doesn’t know how, or doesn’t have an accessible way to learn about money is someone that we as BFF want to reach out to. This type of mass coverage allows doors to open for new members, chapters, and community partners. This consistent growth is how we get financial education to more young people.

This specific feature tells the story behind that growth. It follows the founders of our organization: Toby Qin, Liam Griffin, and Vrund Gurjar, who all grew up seeing how much financial knowledge shaped stability in their lives and wanted to share the knowledge to other kids who don’t have the chance to see the impact. It also puts a spotlight on how much BFF has grown: more than 100 schools reached, over 80 student-led chapters, a learning app for kids, and many drives that have collected thousands of items.

One of the best parts of BFF is that it grows with the members. Our chapters are completely student-run, so to join you don’t need to be an expert; you just need a drive to learn and impact the greater community.
